Medieval atmosphere and the magic of falconry in the stunning Castle of Calascio!
An epic, exciting and engaging adventure in a stunning location, Rocca Calascio, an impressive castle dating back to 1000, enclosed by National Geographic among the 15 most beautiful castles in the world. Surrounded by the Gran Sasso Laga National Park, the castle is the highest fortification in Abruzzo, situated at 1460 mt above the sea level.
The Wild Experience is the ultimate escape for nature lovers who want to wander off the tourist track, and get in close contact with wild animals through the ancient art of falconry.
You will have the opportunity to dip completely into the magic atmosphere of Abruzzo, the hidden gem of Italy, far from noise and stress of the big cities, living in touch with all the creatures of the Falcong team.
Giovanni Granati, Master of Falconry and trainer of wild animals, will introduce you to Italian falconry, the ancient art full of mysteries and secrets, which has recently been enclosed in the UNESCO intangible heritage. A great way to reconnect with Mother Nature, make friendships with other travelers, and enjoy yourself. The falconer will fly a selection of birds of prey from his exclusive private collection, involving participants who will learn how to land a raptor on the falconer’s glove. You will be surprised by the falconer’s dedication to his work, and it will be amazing to see the unique relationship and symbiosis he has created with his wild animals.
The falconer, with his eagles and hawks, will guide you along a path full of breathtaking views suspended between the sky and the earth. The most spectacular part of the wild experience is the one where raptors are the main characters, with their high altitude flights. Hawks, the best fliers among all raptors, will show you their acrobatic flights at incredible speed. Eagles and buzzards, with their long and large wings, will fly without any effort, totally open in static position, lulled by hot air that is channeled from the valley to the mountain.
Weather permitting, a picnic lunch with some local specialties paired with superb local wines is included in the tour, otherwise, lunch will be served in a nearby restaurant. Before going back to Rome we will stop in the enchanting Medieval village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio, included in the exclusive Club of the most beautiful villages in Italy “I Borghi più Belli d’Italia” which will bring you back in the centuries in an atmosphere full of charm and history.
The wild experience is addressed to people of all ages. It has no limitations and it is absolutely safe. The paths are easy to face and they do not require a specific or technical suite or early physical training, but good physical condition is required for climbing the ruins of the castle of Rocca Calascio.
Animals are not allowed to join the experience.

The entire experience doesn’t anyway has a specific program; everything depends on weather, physical abilities of the group, and other conditions. The activity is season dependant and it’s subject to favorable weather conditions.

DAY TOUR FROM ROME
8.30 am – Departure from Rome – Anagnina Station
11.00 am – Arrival in Abruzzo. Our tour starts in the tiny medieval village of Calascio where we will have a coffee break with some local pastries. After a 10 minutes’ walk we will reach the ruins of the castle where the wild experience begins.
1.00 pm – picnic lunch based on local specialties paired with superb local wines. In case of bad weather conditions a light lunch will be served in a local restaurant.
2.30 pm – Visit of the Medieval Village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio.
3.30 pm – Departure for Rome. Drop-off at Anagnina Station at around 5.30 pm
