During this tour we will show you one of the most interesting and spectacular areas of Abruzzo. The villages of Calascio, with its impressive castle dating back to 1000, and Santo Stefano di Sessanio, with its architecture, provide a taste of the Middle Age, which will bring you back in the centuries in an atmosphere full of charm and history.
The castle of Rocca Calascio, situated at 1460 m. a.s.l. in the Gran Sasso – Laga National Park, is the highest fortification in Abruzzo. The landscape is impressive, the view remarkable. Not by chance, this area has been chosen a a set for many movies, among which are wothr of notice “In the name of the Rose” starring Sean Connery, and “Lady Hawke” starring a young Michelle Pfiffer.
The village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio, included in the exclusive Club of the “Most Beautiful Villages in Italy” (Borghi più Belli d’Italia), undoubtely is one of the most charming villages of the Apennines, which has preserved the main features of the Italian Medieval Villages.
The tour includes an unforgettable lunch in the unspoilt nature of the upland of Campo Imperatore, where you will have the chance to taste delicious homemade prosciutto and cheese, fresh bread, and last but not least, the famous arrosticini abruzzesi. In case of adverse weather conditions, the pic-nic lunch will be replaced with lunch in a typical restaurant.
